After a few decades of being interested in keeping bees, I started my first hive last Spring. And now I don’t think there will ever be a time when I don’t have a few colonies of honey bees in my care. I am absolutely in love with the processes involved in keeping a honey bee colony healthy and thriving, and find myself looking forward to each hive inspection as it comes, and being sad when I have to close up the hive until next time. These tiny creatures are fascinating and clever and inspiring all at the same time. I’m thrilled to be added to a long history of beekeeping on planet Earth.

This little pincushion is my ode to the Queen bee, who some would say is the slave of the Worker Bees, and some would say is the Ruler of the entire Colony. Either way, she is always, without exception, a remarkable creature, capable of choosing what the hive needs most (Workers or Drones), and laying eggs to fulfill that need.
